At last a PNP case (mentioned here on July 14, 2007)has been published by the Cocker Spanielklubben and it is even called PNP!
The case is Panhur's Amazing Survivor, born november 2006, by Westerner Aquarious, a grandson to 'my' A One's Aldebaran,
a dog that has not been used for stud work since 2005 and I wonder why, did Aldebaran die, or what. Dam of the PNP case is Panhur's Amazing Love.
Hopefully the "cold" cases from 2004, one litter sister of which is used for breeding, will soon be published too,
and whose pedigree contains names that also appear in the pedigree of the above published case.
Then there's the case from 2005 that has not yet been published.

Dags för Cocker Spanielklubben att upprätta en LIKABEHANDLINGSPLAN!
En del medlemmar anmäls till SKK:s Disciplinnämnd när de de utnyttjar grundlagsskyddad rätt att framföra åsikt;
andra får stöd i form av valphänvisning från klubben när de agerar i strid med SKK:s beslut i egen fråga.
Några får till och med hjälp av klubben efter det att de utsatt sina hundar för extrem fara och onödigt lidande p g a bristande tillsyn.
Klubben blundar även för det faktum att en hanhundsägare lånar ut sin hane till tik, vars ägare uppmanats av SKK att avvakta med parning tills beslut om nytt hälsoprogram fattats.

Very sad news from Italy, CH Hermionemcpink, Italy, bitch born July 17, 2006, has been tested by Antagene November 2007 as FN Affected,
parents genetically confirmed FN Carriers. My thoughts are with the owner. Wish the test is somewhat not accurate.

Britta and Ezra were not used for breeding after that but Classicway Catch Phrase went on mating ...

What's the point, some might claim, now that we don't need to know more than one generation behind our dogs and its OptiGen status?
I want to know and understand WHY e g Rapunzel's mother is a (hereditary) carrier of prcd-PRA.
Has she got it from L Sadly Sober or from Kisses Kim, or from both?
Since SU(u)CH DKUCH VDHCH DTBSG2000 WW03 Blue Satin Forever A One's (OptiGen A1) produced no carriers with L Sadly Sober,
I presume that L Sadly Sober is Clear and that Kisses Kim should be the one who carries the prcd-PRA gene, what with her sire's,
PRA Carrier AMCH DECH POLCH 91 92 DKCH Lynann's Little Boy Blue, COI of 26,3%!
And if I cannot find a sire for Rapunzel's next litter who is OptiGen-tested, I need at least to make sure Little Boy Blue is not there,
even if her puppies could never be anything worse than carriers.
I will not live to the day when all cockers used for breeding are OptiGen-tested, of that I am certain.

Here is a COI-10-generation-ancestor-table for my sweet Bling-Bling.
FN- and PRA-carrier Scoly's Starduster appears 62 times!
The COI for Wiljana Ragtrade in the Swedish Rasdata is determined to be 16%, it should be 29,58237%!
Thanks a million, BH! My eyes have certainly been focused on the wrong dogs.
What the breed needs is a COI-base-site, with correct figures, where we could make our own test-mating-tables.

Both SKK and Jagdspaniel-Klub claim that Hansi's inbreeding level is 0.0%. Here are the true figures.
Among Hansi's (theoretically) 1.024 different ancestors within ten generations Wells Fargo of Weirdene, a prcd-PRA Carrier, appears 65 times (!).
Is there anybody among us who has the guts to go on breeding with non-tested dogs?
And how about other diseases, that are just watiting to STRIKE!
Next time I plan to mate a bitch of mine her and the sire's resp REAL COIs will be highly considered.
Make your own tables and you will understand why you went into a blind alley and how to avoid problems in future! Or keep plunging your head into the sand!

At the European Spaniel Congress 2007 at Stockerau/Vienna 55 delegates from 14 European countries participated,
14 from Austria, 8 from The Czech Republic, 2 from Denmark (!), 1 from France, 15 from Germany, 2 from Kroatia, 1 from Lithuania, 2 from The Netherlands,
1 from Poland, 1 from Russia, 2 from Slovakia, 2 from Spain, 2 from Switzerland and 4 from Great Britain (a country that is often unjustly accused of isolationism),
but ZERO from Sweden, how embarrassing!
Topics dealt with were among others DNA-tests, European product liability law, which, I know for sure, very few Swedish Cocker breeders are familiar with,
recommendation for health standards, development of the Cocker Spaniel, the Sables, vulnerability of our breed.
Next Congress, in 2009, will be held in the Czech Republic..(?)

an A One's dog (by a UK export sire) is in the 4th generation, no hush-hush and hot lines, please!

The Swedish Kennel Club invalidates Hansi's BOB Progeny Group win at My Dog January 2007 on account of protest letter from 'exhibitor'.
The letter from the SKK does not say whether judge Frank Kane is now banned from the Swedish show grounds or not, for
disregarding Miss Karin Staaf's, at the time on the Cocker Spanielklubben Committee, refusal to participate with SU(u)CH NUCH Backhills Farah Diba
in Farah Diba's father's, VDHCH DECH SU(u)CH DKUCH KBHV04 NordV03 SV05 Midnight Train Vom Rauhen Holz's, progeny group,
in spite of the fact that SU(u)CH NUCH Backhills Farah Diba's was stacked in the ring, with her own progeny group, for the judge to see,
same procedure as at Uddevalla on April 1, 2006.
Well, this seems to be the only way to beat my old boy and his progeny groups. On paper.

NB From January 1, 2007, it is OK with the SKK to refuse to participate with your dog/bitch in somebody else's progeny group
but the SKK considers it to be good 'cynologic' morals to participate in a progeny group if you are asked to.
The SKK keeps sending me letters informing me that my old boy has a group at their show, I groom him, bring him with me 500 kms,
just to learn that, no, the owner of one of the bitches listed in the SKK progeny letter to me, does not feel like participating, even if the bitch is present.
A ring steward at My Dog Gothenburg told me that there are exhibitors who peep in on the day for the show, buy a catalogue,
check if their dogs are included in a progeny group and then leave the show.
What's the point in arranging progeny classes?

Interesting news from Kennel IsIsbjørnhiet's and OptiGen. OptiGen has repeated the prcd-PRA test on the blood sample from Isbjørnhiet's Winter Conqueror they tested and stored from 2003.
The result is CARRIER. The repeated new test was done by the specific mutation test. This definitely concludes that Isbjørnhiet's Winter Conqueror does NOT have the
prcd form of PRA disease. Although this dog has some type of PRA and is a carrier of prcd, it does NOT have the prcd disease that is most common in the ECS breed.
OptiGen has made note of this case and in the future, if other genes are found to cause a form of PRA in ECS, they will retest the sample again.
Which shows, again, that Hansi's son NUCH NV2000 Blue Satin Finest Creation (OptiGenA1!) is NOT a carrier of prcd-PRA!

SKK:s Disciplinnämnd har idag mottagit mitt yttrande avseende CSK:s/SSRK:s anmälan mot mig.
Disciplinnämnden sänder nu mitt yttrande till SSRK för kännedom och ev yttrande.
Disciplinnämnden har sitt nästa sammanträde den 1 december 2006.
Juridiskt stöd för uppgifter publicerade på hemsidor finns här:
Grundprincipen om yttrandefrihet i RF (regeringsform) 2:1 med hänvisning till - TF (tryckfrihetsförordning) 1:1 för tryckta medier och YGL (yttrandefrihetsgrundlag) 1:1 för övriga.
Personuppgifter får inte behandlas (publiceras) utan samtycke, PUL (personuppgiftslag 10§).
Det gäller inte om regeln skulle inskränka TF eller YGL eller om behandlingen sker för journalistiska ändamål, PUL 7§.
Publicering på en hemsida omfattas av kravet på journalistiska ändamål enligt lagens förarbeten.
Undantaget från 7§ är i princip renodlade databaser. Uppgifterna ska dock vara aktuella och korrekta, 9§.
Publicering i enlighet med YGL/TF får inte vara brottslig. Med brottslig avses förtal, förolämpning, hets mot folkgrupp, anstiftan till brott etc.

Fact remains, however, that the two Swedish dogs (one of which imported) that participated in the English Cocker Spaniel Kidney Disease Research Project
at Texas A&M University in May 2005 were declared to have a NORMAL FN genetic status and that the mutated allele was ABSENT,
i e they are NOT CARRIERS of the disease, although both dogs have sired at least two puppies each that died of renal failure, two of which diagnosed PNP.
The only data included in the Texas A&M University result letter are:
Dog name: Buddy (fictitious)
Sample received: 12/5/2005
Mutated allele: absent
FN genetic status: normal
There is no ID, no registration number, no pedigree name, no colour, no birth date, etc.
The mother of two of the puppies was tested CLEAR too.

Today I received a letter from the SKK telling me that the Cocker Spanielklubben has asked them to take disciplinary measures against me
"for obstructing the work of the Cocker Spanielklubben". Avskrift av CSK:s anmälan till SKK:s Disciplinnämnd
No membership in the world can make me give up my human rights freedom of speech and freedom to express my opinion.
My loyalty is with the breed. SSRK biträder CSK:s anmälan (avskrift)

April 7
The effects of the decisions made at the annual meeting of the Cocker Spanielklubben on March 25 are immediate and appalling.
The owner of a non-qualified OptiGen Affected (C1) bitch, purchased for breeding, calls her breeder and asks for advice and receives the answer
"I don't believe in OptiGen-testing and neither does the club, you're free to breed with your bitch as much as you want to!"
WHEREAS highly qualified carriers (NB! Not affected!) dogs like SU(u)CH Line Sam Hot Black Pepper, HDA and the one with the by far highest single scores for Cocker of the Year 2006,
and SU(u)CH NUCH Atacama's Zougin, HDua, are NOT to be bred with, because one of their parents has a clinical diagnosis of PRA!

Svar från Vet Med Dr Astrid Hoppe, Institution för kirurgi och medicin, Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet, angående motsägelsefull information om PNP inför årsmötet 25 mars:
"... det är rätt att arvsgången ej är utredd på de flesta raser utom shihtzu, men eftersom sjukdomen leder till samma problem och ser likartad ut
så är det troligt att sjukdomen är ärftlig i samtliga drabbade raser. Rekommendationen från min sida blir därför att vara försiktig i sitt avelsarbete genom att
inte använda kullsyskon och föräldrar i avel till en valp som diagnostiserats med renal dysplasi.
Diagnosen renal dysplasi ställs genom histologisk undersökning i ljusmikroskop av njurvävnad, där njurvävnaden kan tas genom biopsi eller efter obduktion.
Njursjukdomarna Fanconis syndrom och cystinuri diagnostiseras genom urinprov där onormalt hög utsöndring av aminosyror (ffa cystin) kan ses."

At the breeders' PNP information meeting at Uppsala on December 7, 2005, arranged by the Cockerklubben Uppsala/Länsförsäkringar (insurance company),
the attending breeders were informed by the lecturer, referred to at the annual meeting of the Cocker Spanielklubben, Sweden, on March 25,
and considered Sweden's only PNP expert, that, quote cutting from the memoranda of one attending member of the Cocker Spanielklubben:
"Ärftligheten är inte känd, tyder på recessivt anlag, vet inte säkert. Skydda sig mot recessiva sjukdomar. Föräldrar och helsyskon till en sjuk hund skall INTE användas."!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Translation word for word: "Hereditariness is not known, indicates recessive disposition, does/do not know for sure. Protect oneself/oneselves against recessive diseases.
Parents and full sisters and brothers to an affected dog are NOT to be used."

Att jämföras med Astrid Hoppe: "Under årens lopp har dessa medfödda njursjukdomar givits olika beteckningar som med största sannolikhet (!!!) beskriver en och samma defekt.
Som exempel kan nämnas: njurbarkshypoplasi hos cocker spaniel, familjär njursjukdom hos norsk älghund och samojed,
progressiv njursjukdom hos lhasa apso, shih tzu och soft coated wheaten terrier." samt vidare:
"... sjukdomen har en enkel recessiv arvsgång."

Insane annual meeting of Cocker Spanielklubben, Sweden
Our Cocker Spanielklubben accepts that we go on breeding with dogs/bitches that have produced puppies that died of renal failure
but does NOT accept breeding with dogs/bitches OptiGen-tested as carriers/B1s.
A small step for the club but a giant leap back to the 1940s for the breed!
