A One's Cocker Spaniels

Borås International, July 1, 2007

Judge Mr John Thirlwell, kennel Ferndel, famous breeder/owner of 22 UK Welsh Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel,
Irish Setter, English Setter and Pointer Champions, among others SHCH Ferndel Copywrite and SHCH Ferndel Cecilia.

60 cockers entered, 46 of which showed up

I can see it in his hands.
I can see it in his touch.
I can see it in his eyes.
I can see it in his face.
He is one of few who has not lost his 'eye' for the true cocker standard.
No 'expert' fools me. Most of them never had the 'eye' and never will have.
And they know it.
It's a gift.
And John Thirlwell has it.

On May 16, 1992, Mr Thirlwell gave my A One's Kiss'n Bop A Lula a 2nd in quality, which almost made me jump from Västerbron. I learnt my lesson well, even if
it took some time to accept that Lulu WAS 'up to size' and lacking femininity. Thirlwell wrote: "Masculine junior bitch. Up to size but of lovely type and shape.
Pleasing headshape. Well-constructed body. Short and compact. Needs a lot of training to boost her confidence. Unable to assess movement."

Lulu later gained her 3 CCs and became a Swedish Show Champion at the age of two years. A fact that I learnt even more from ...

Neither did Mr Thirlwell give Charbonnel A One's Macho (Macho had at the time already won 11 CACs!) a CK at the same show.
"Pleasing head, although a little loose in eye. Well-constructed body with good bone and substance. Lovely quarters. Up to size but well-proportioned. Moved soundly."
